Joe joined the team on WDEF News 12 This Morning in June after serving as Noon Anchor for the past 5 years. Before coming to Chattanooga in 2006, he worked for 9 years in the Tri-Cities (Johnson City - Bristol - Kingsport).
Over the course of his career, Joe's received several awards for his work, both in the field and on the set. The Tennessee Associated Press honored Joe this Spring as "Best News Anchor" for his body of work in 2010.
Joe grew up in the Nashville area and graduated from MTSU. He began his broadcast career at the age of 14 at public radio station WVCP in Gallatin and continued to work in radio at WMOT while in college. He switched to TV before graduation, landing an Anchor/Reporter position at independent station WHRT in Murfreesboro.
Joe enjoys baseball and probably represents the biggest Houston Astros fan in the region. He donates much of his free time to an area youth association, working behind the scenes to organize teams and games, and helping teach children the fundamentals of baseball.
He also loves playing with his 2 children, watching science fiction films, making new creations in the kitchen, and finding great deals. He parlayed his love of frugality into the Joe Frugal blog found on facebook and here at WDEF.com.
Thrilled to call Chattanooga home, Joe enjoys the many activities this region offers... including the Riverwalk, Riverbend, Lookouts games and the various downtown offerings.
