7/1/09 Holiday Weekend Forecast!
Wow, is it July already? I don’t know if I am more surprised with the time of the year, or the storms that rolled through the area this morning!
A weak “short-wave” (better known as a ripple in the atmosphere) rolled through the area this morning. With the relatively cold air aloft, storms were able to develop causing brief heavy rain and even a few reports of small hail. Too bad it was not widespread giving us all a bit of rain.
That disturbance has now moved off to the east leaving the TN Valley with plenty of sunshine. Like yesterday, we should be a bit breezy with highs in the low 90s. We continue to enjoy low humidity for this time of the year.
There is a slight chance of an afternoon storm today as a cold front pushes through the area. This front will allow another shot of slightly cooler temps and low humidity.
Thursday-Friday: More of the same for Thursday as we continue with winds from the northwest. Highs will once again top out around 90. Friday will see an increase in humidity with a chance of a storm or two as the large area of Low Pressure over the Great Lakes loosens it’s grip on the TN Valley. Highs will reach the upper 80s, a tad cooler due to more clouds. I don’t see any storms Friday evening for the numerous Firework shows in the area.
Saturday-Sunday: The weekend weather is a bit tricky. As high pressure to the West breaks down and the area of low pressure in the Northeast lifts out, we will be caught in the middle with an “active” storm track. This could mean a better chance of mainly afternoon storms for both days. There is even a chance that a complex of storms could roll through the area both Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
There is a better chance of rain on Sunday, than Saturday due to a cold front that is expected to pass through.
I will forecast the rain to come to an end during the evening hours on Saturday, which should allow the firework shows to stay dry….I have my fingers crossed. If we do see the rain, totals look promising with up to 1” plus for the next 5 days noted below. We could use it.
Oh, and in case you missed it, a list of ALL The firework shows in the area can be found on our homepage here at www.wdef.com.
See you soon,
Brian
