Heavy Rain, Flooding Continues this AM.
While much of the flash flooding from yesterday has ended, we are once again dealing with more HEAVY rain this morning. This will lead to more excessive runoff on area roads. Flash Flooding is once again a problem for some this morning, especially in NW Georgia.
Flash Flood warnings/Advisories continue for a good portion of NW GA and SE TN until later this morning. The entire viewing area is under a flood watch. TITAN Radar continues to shower moderate to heavy rain moving northeast at 10-15mph over some of the same areas hit hard yesterday. Rainfall rates this morning have been 1-2” an hour. The heavy rain will continue for the next couple of hours.
Just a quick update on rain totals. Some of the hardest hit areas extend from LaFayette, GA to Southern Hamilton County, TN. I have seen reports of up to 8 or 9 inches of rain in the Chickamauga area since Saturday. Over 7 and half inches have been reported in Ringgold. A record was set in Chattanooga yesterday with 3.72 with over 5” since Saturday morning.
The heavy rain will last for a few more hours with scattered showers this afternoon. More rain is expected on Tuesday. Again, please be careful on area roadways as the rainwater just has no place to go. An additional 1-3” possible for many through this evening.
