Nightfall & Riverfront Nights: The Whigs & The Red Hot Poker Dots

Nightfall is rocking this week with a visit from The Whigs.

The Athens, Georgia trio is young and antsy.

They've been around for about four years now, most of it spent trying to record their debut album (Give Em All A Big Fat Lip).

But this year, they're on a massive tour promoting their follow up (Mission Control).

Parker Gispert handles guitar, keyboards and the songs for the group.

But they also have a crazy-sounding, left-handed drummer, named Julian Dorio.

Last year, he won a Best Drummer award from Esquire magazine and is currently featured in Modern Drummer.

Check out their performance of "Right Hand on My Heart" from the new album on Letterman earlier this year.

And here is a live version of Like A Vibration from Lollapalooza in Chicago a couple of weeks ago.

For more Whig adventures on the road, take a look at their blog.

The Bohannans will open the show at 7:00.

The Whigs take the Miller Plaza stage at 8:00.

On Saturday, it's the return of the Red Hot Poker Dots for Riverfront Nights.

How to describe this music?

Country/String Band/Rockabilly from Down Under!

And there is a lot of yodeling.

But instead of describing it, just take a look at these clips from a film about their tour of the Outback, called Swampy Tonk Deluxe.

Part II: Oh, the places that Lil'O'Dette will take that double bass of hers!

Part III: The Aussie version of Bull Riding

Brandy Robinson from Knoxville will open the show at 7:30.

Here is how she describes her music.
