Animal Fix: Two Guys and a Snake - Igou Gap Rd., Chattanooga

Comments Below: 21

snake 6Michael Hayes (left) and Robbie Stamlick (right) were headed towards home on Igou Gap Rd.  Not necessarily an event to blog about.  But it was what they were carrying that caught the eye of this roaming Animal Fix blogger.

I know that we have plenty of snakes slithering around in the TN Valley but I had to pull over and see what they had as people honked their horns and yelled questions from their cars like: "...where did you find that?..." and "...is it dead?..."

So, I decided to find out and tell you.  Take a listen to what they had to say...CLICK HERE.  And...Yes, it was very dead...in case you were wondering too!

oh my freakin god!!!!!!!!!

oh my freakin god!!!!!!!!! did that thing just move?
sorry i couldnt help but to insult at your ignorance, but any retard with internet access could find that this is a dead snake.... there all of you are wrong, it WAS a midland watersnake and is now a DEAD snake.... just let jay and silent bob, ( hillbilly edition)wallow in thier ten seconds of fame online and days of public ridicule and insult. they cant help the way they were born.

Yeah, the snake's head is

Yeah, the snake's head is almost a diamond and yours is almost square. They look like they are afraid the DEAD snake might bite. Good grief.... here we have a prime example of why city dwellers should remain indoors at all times and leave the dangerous OUTdoor stuff to those who understand the difference between a water snake and an actual venomous snake.

HAHHAHA thats just a regular

HAHHAHA thats just a regular water snake...lmao idiots..

Those guys should be hailed

Those guys should be hailed as heroes, that snake they killed is actually the dreaded 2 step viper. If bitten, the victims IQ drops 2 points per minute until intivenin is received

Haha...a bushmaster? That's

Haha...a bushmaster? That's fantanstic! Seriously, if you have no idea what you are talking about, stop acting like you do. It doesn't even look like a bushmaster. What on earth put an idea like that in your head? I can maybe understand why you might mistake it for a cottonmouth (though it's clearly not), but a bushmaster...I'm not even sure how to respond to that.

Were their hats put on their

Were their hats put on their heads like that because it's "cool" or became like that after this "dangerous" encounter?

Real Brave Guys...NOT!

I guess if I shoot someone's Yorkie, I can get my picture in the paper, too; after all, I did something really brave by saving all of humanity from that killer beast, right?
GROW SOME BRAINS, guys! It's a harmless Midland Water Snake, not a Bushmaster or a Cottonmouth, and the morons posing with it are doing nothing but making themselves look like idiots! As long as the media continues to give credence to such unevolved cretins by allowing their pictures, posed with some harmless animal that they've killed as an act of "courage", people will continue to harbor these Dark Ages mentalities. If this were a kitten or a little dog, would you allow that picture to be posted, glorifying what these simpletons did? Anyone who'd mistake a Water Snake for a "poisonous" snake(of which there's no such thing, by the way), will surely mistake a Poodle for a Dire Wolf!

Just to reiterate : It's a

Just to reiterate : It's a HARMLESS midland watersnake. Unreal that some think it's a Bushmaster. It doesn't come close to looking like a Bushmaster.

Seriously, I work with

Seriously, I work with snakes....that is not a cottonmouth or bushmaster. As said before, it is a harmless midland water snake and would pose no threat to anyone, unless you consider minor scratches from a bite threatening. Water snakes are intimidating and aggressive and will bite, but their bite will not harm you. 5 minutes of internet research would be enough to learn the difference between cottonmouths and water snakes.

Snakecharmer- please inform yourself. You are perpetuating a misconception that has probably killed tens of thousands of water snakes.

"Okay, the snake is more

"Okay, the snake is more than likely a Cottonmouth. But, the markings on it look exacally like a Bushmaster, which are known to be imported here from South America. They are 10x more dangerous than any cottonmouth. This is a concern. Take my advice...have the snake checked out. If it is a Bushmaster, it is a juvinille, meaning it is probably not alone."

This is the most rediculous thing I have read in a long time!

Uh... no.

This is not a cotton mouth, and LOL - most certainly isn't a bushmaster.... Who in their right mind would think this is a bushmaster?!

This is a midland water snake, it's non-venomous and in no way a threat to anyone....

It's irresponsible to misinform people when you yourself don't know what you're talking about.

- Cameron

The bigger threat

Maybe I should go around killing cats, because, "Hey, they look like lions and tigers." Then again, killing free roaming cats is a VERY eco-friendly thing to do. Domestic cats are the most injurious invasive species (other than humans)on the planet. KILL THEM ALL. THE ONLY GOOD OUTDOOR CAT IS A DEAD ONE. SHAMEFUL

That is a 100% HARMLESS water snake. It is NOT a cottonmouth or bushmaster. Try educating yourselves before murdering harmless animals that are an important part of our ecosystem.

water snake

That is a non-venomous and completely harmless water snake.

Snake ID from two guys and a snake

Snake Charmer should stick to charming snakes since he/she doesn't seem to have any idea how to identify them.

It is a harmless Midland Watersnake, killed unnecessarily as are so many snakes.

thats a very large midlands

thats a very large midlands watersnake

snake on Igou Gap Road

I do wish you would tell us where on Igou Gap this snake was found! We who live in that area would love to know the answer to that question!

Answer to Snake location

The two guys who found the snake said that they picked it up off of the side of the road about 100 yards away from the four-way blinking red light where Jenkins and Igou Gap intersect going towards Gunbarrel Rd.

two guys and a snake

Okay, the snake is more than likely a Cottonmouth. But, the markings on it look exacally like a Bushmaster, which are known to be imported here from South America. They are 10x more dangerous than any cottonmouth. This is a concern. Take my advice...have the snake checked out. If it is a Bushmaster, it is a juvinille, meaning it is probably not alone.

"Snakecharmer" needs to

"Snakecharmer" needs to learn about snakes. That is simply a harmless water snake. The snake is nothing to worry about, but the two hillbillies in the picture who look like they're straight out of the movie "Deliverance" are definitely something to avoid.

Clearly you know NOTHING

Clearly you know NOTHING about snakes.
