Chattanooga "Skyline Bloods" Gang Members on Trial for 2006 Shooting of Adrian Patton
Submitted by Reneé LaSalle on May 13, 2008 - 5:23pm. News | Crime | Hamilton County NewsOpening arguments began Tuesday in the murder trial of two Chattanooga gang members.
Michael Daniels and Timothy Evans are accused in the June 13th 2006 shooting death of 26 year old Adrian Patton.
The high profile trial is under some of the tightest security in Hamilton County...
An extra layer of security blocks the doors to Judge Rebecca Stern's courtroom for the trial of two acknowledged gang members.
Hamilton County Sgt. Rick Hamrick says, "Anytime we have families that are upset on both sides we up our security."
Nineteen year old Timothy "Timbo" Evans and 22 year old Michael "Mike Mike" Daniels are members of Chattanooga's "Skyline Bloods" gang, an off-shoot of the infamous "Bloods" gang from Compton, CA.
They are charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit first degree murder in the death of Adrian Patton.
Hamilton Co. Executive Assistant District Attorney Neal Pinkston addresses jurors, "Timothy Evans, sitting before you, shot Adrian Patton six times with a 9mm."
The State alleges Daniels ordered Evans to kill Patton in retaliation for Patton shooting at his sister's home...Patton's family says it never happened.
Patton's Cousin Roshundra Griffin says, "Just like the lawyers said the only true thing is that Adrian is dead."
Defense attorneys say their clients' gang involvement is being used to scare jurors into a guilty verdict.
Michael Daniels' Attorney Jesse Dalton says, "Make the right decision. Think about your decision. Don't let your heart, or your fear influence that decision."
The defendants wear stun belts to keep them apart in court.
They have conflicting versions of events surrounding Patton's death...each pleaded not-guilty to all counts.
Timothy Evans' Attorney John McDougal says, "Wait until the end until you hear all the evidence in this you'll make your determination."
Meanwhile, Adrian Patton's family members say they have their evidence...and its time for someone to pay.
Patton's Cousin Kenyetta Bray says, "Its hard sitting in there watching the guys, knowing that they still here and my cousin's gone. We just want justice, that's all we want."
The judge ordered the jury sequestered during trial.
Testimony begins Wednesday morning.
