Representative Zach Wamp Explains Vote For Bailout Bill
Submitted by Amanda Odom on October 9, 2008 - 6:17pm. News | Business News | Consumer News | Government & Politics | Hamilton County News The meltdown over the Credit Crisis convinced Representative Zach Wamp to switch his vote on the bailout plan.
Thursday he was back in town explaining why.
The Congressman spoke at the Rotary Club Luncheon today at the Chattanooga Convention Center.
Wamp voted against the original bailout plan, but voted for the second version.
He says between those two votes, he found a mountain of evidence that the government needed to stand behind the economy.
Rep. Wamp says, "The cost of not doing this was going to be higher than the cost of doing it, and that's a tough call, because you end up doing the politically unpopular thing, but the thing that you really believe in your heart based on everything you've learned and all the people you've talked to is the only choice that we have at the end of the week."
Wamp says he got a lot of angry calls about it at first.
But those have eased up now that he's going around to explain his vote.
