As the sun rises tomorrow on Main Street, music and merriment follow, as a 24-hour party gets underway on the Southside.
Elana Gulas, a Fellow at Create Here, says "Chattanooga is a 24 hour city, you know."
MainX24 serves as a showcase for a street on the rebound.
A pancake breakfast at the firehall kicks things off, with 24-pieces of art from 24 Southside artists, a parade and fashion show, and square dancing and tango at Decosimo Rogers studio among the local flavors. Artist Cessna Decosimo says "anyway I can get dancing to go on is ok with me and I get to enjoy my nephews music."
Over 50 activities fill the 24-hour schedule, aiming to reveal to Chattanooga what some call a hidden treasure. Jana Huddleston, a Yoga Instructor at Madia's, says her business will be "doing an all day open house and we've got certain services we're offering, free yoga demonstrations a tai chi class."
This event started as a declaration to the community that there's life here on main street. Now, it's become more than that. Gulas says "I think this area doesn't get much attention and it's a really great area to live in and be working and playing and we want more people to realize it."
Joan Marie Worsham runs The Bluegrass Grill. She says Main found new life through the seeding of the right people. "Its definitely a community that walks, we're within walking distance of a library and post office and from that is an old time neighborhood. Chattanooga's now built on suburbs other than the North Chatt side."
The celebration of community and relationships also aims to do some good too, raising money for and constructing the city's first green certified habitat house.
