Riverbend Preview: Saturday, June 6th
Submitted by Collins Parker on June 5, 2009 - 12:20pm. BONUS Video | Scenic City SceneSaturday gives us a lot of variety.
We've got plenty of rockin choices (garage, Detroit, & a tribute band).
And throw in some New Grass and Jazzy Folk and you've got options.
THE RECOMMENDATIONS
The Emmit Nershi Band, a super-group of sorts in the New Grass, acoustic world.
THE PREVIEWS:
6:15-7:30
TN Valley Credit Union (Under Walnut)
Brandy Robinson comes from Knoxville, but it took some time in the Hawaii Islands to take her guitar playing seriously. She calls her style Funky-Folk-Fusion.
Here's Brandy, talking and singing.
7:45-9:00
TN Valley Credit Union (Under Walnut)
Sisters can sing some tight harmonies. So imagine what Twins can do. Sarah and Claire Bowman have been singing and playing together professionally for about five years. So far, they're a bigger hit in Britain than here in the U.S. Take a look at this quirky performance.
The Hard Lessons
9:15-10:30
TN Valley Credit Union
Riverbend gets a blast of Detroit Rock and Roll from The Hard Lessons. The band emerged from the same club scene that gave us The White Stripes and the Von Bondies. You also heard one of their songs in the Grey's Anatomy season ender.
Here's a music video they just made for their new album out this spring.
6:15-7:30
Bud Light Stage (Olgiatti Bridge)
Garage rock from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Three guitars and southern story telling wrapped into one band. It's pretty straight forward.
Here's the video from their new album that just came out.
Emmit - Nershi band
7:45-9:00
Bud Light Stage (Olgiatti Bridge)
Drew Emmit was the Mandolin player and singer for jam legends Leftover Salmon.
Bill Nershi was a founding member and writer for String Cheese Incident.
Throw in a couple of rising string players, and you've got this new band out on the road playing their version of New Grass.
The Last Waltz Ensemble
9:30-11:00
Unum Stage (Hunter Museum)
Riverbend dives into the tribute band trend with this show. The Last Waltz Ensemble is based in Atlanta. They play the music of Bob Dylan and The Band (1970-75 era).
But they give it a jam ban spin, allegedly never playing the same set list twice.
