CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF-TV) The blankets for burgers campaign has come to an end for Cheeburger Cheeburger.
They have collected more than 300 blankets for homeless people in Chattanooga.
Ashley Vonschaaf, Assistant Manager at Cheeburger Cheeburger, said back in early December why this local restaurant began this campaign.
“We're in the position where we're going to be able to help and give back to the homeless and the people who are going to be less fortunate," Vonschaaf said.
They did that by collecting and donating blankets to those who are homeless so they can live a little warmer during the cold months.
On the first official day of winter in 2013, Cheeburger Cheeburger gathered at Miller Park on a rainy day and distributed blankets while they cooked chili and burgers for those in need.
Co-Owner Charlie Eich has been in the community for about 15 years and feels that he had to give something back.
"A lot of hungry people in Chattanooga and it's nice to be able to give back to the community that's been so good to us,” Eich said.
He also feels that this is a responsibility for him.
"I think everybody's got an obligation to help those in their communities that are less fortunate,” Eich added. “We're blessed enough to be in that situation to help out so why not?”
Even though they collected over 300 blankets, they only gave out about 150 burgers, because some only did not want anything for their generosity.
