CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF-TV) A Chattanooga family gets some closure after a Hamilton County jury found Tony Bigoms guilty in the death of Dana Wilkes.
That murder took place back in 2012. They said Bigoms even dismembered her body with a manual saw after her murder Wilkes.
While it took Dana’s family more than 30 minutes to gather themselves after the verdict was read, they did the best they could to fight the emotions.
Through sign language one of Dana's younger sisters expressed as best she could the pain of not having her sister with her anymore, but they now have a little peace because of the verdict handed down by the jury.
Tony Bigoms could only bury his face in his hand after the guilty verdict was read.
While Dana's family was full of raw emotion in the courtroom, they knew this is what they wanted.
"I just thank got that it was a guilty verdict,” said Dana’s mother Carol Sims. “So that this person will harm another person ever.”
The gruesome image of how their loved one was murder was an image family members do not want to think about. They are glad to see this convicted killer put away, and now it’s time that try and move forward. Something they are ready to do.
“I feel like now we can mourn her and think about her instead of him,” said Dana’s sister Amy Yates.
Part of that process is remembering who Dana was as a person.
“She was just a bubbly personality and giving and loving and she love, she loved life,” said Sims.
Tragically Wlkes’ life was taken away from her, but her family is happy they can begin to put this nightmare behind them.
“We're just thankful for justice to be served for Dana,” said Sims
They family felt without a doubt they have put the right guy behind bars and that puts them at ease.
