Bradley County, TN (WDEF-TV) Residents of Bradley County went to the Grand Opening of their new SPCA. A small group gathered Sunday afternoon and stood united for rights of their animals.
County Commissioner Mark Hall said this was needed.
"It rallies the community behind a worthy cause,” said Commissioner Hall.
This was a weekend of excitement for many in the Bradley County area who welcomed this new center, and they know it will give animals a better quality of life.
"Every animal has the best chance of success,” said Hall.
Now many animals in this are have the possibility of going to a loving family without worrying according to Bradley County SPCA Founder Jodie Westwood.
“You know these dogs really need that extra time,” said Westwood.
Westwood recalls what exactly made her want to help this cause.
"I adopted a very starving Chocolate Lab, and she was underweight, she was starving, and she was extremely ill,” said Westwood.
Initially a Christmas gift for her sister, Westwood had to keep this Chocolate Lab a little longer than she expected, but that wasn't a problem for her.
"So I did re-home the dog, who is now an eighty pound pure Chocolate Lab, who has a three-year old owner,” she added.
The black lab proved to be a blessing in disguise for her new owner, because she rescued the three-year-old from water that he fell into, just as she was rescued by Jodie Westwood.
Many of these animals could have a similar story once they find their home and that is why many here feel this facility was needed.
"Did the best that I could to support the organization I feel this county so vitally needed,” said Westwood.
All of these animals are vaccinated, micro chipped, and also spayed and neutered.
