If you prefer your snail mail for your government check, it's time to change with the times.
In order to prevent fraud and cut spending, the Treasury Department is going to stop sending paper checks in less than two months.
Richard Gordon has more than 10 years experience working with social security recipients as a judge and now with Dale Buchanan and Associates and says for some, it will be quite the adjustment.
"Those that still get the checks will have to transition over to it and for them it'll be a little bit of a change," Gordon said.
Their options are now to have their money direct deposited into their bank account or sign up for a direct express card.
"You don't need any bank account for it. And they don't charge any fees to take the money out of an ATM. It's much safer. It's safer for elderly people and certainly, we do disabled people here. It's safer for them because they don't have to get the check, go down to the bank, cash it, pay their bills. They can do this all with this card," according to Gordon.
Godirect.org is counting down the seconds to the deadline to switch, March first.
It was set up by the government to help people make the switch, and boasts it's saving taxpayers a billion dollars.
