(WDEF) Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke gave an update on the so-called "High Point Initiative" Thursday afternoon.
It was part of his keynote address at the Downtown Rotary Club meeting.
The Initiative is a plan to reduce violence by cracking down on drug dealers.
It's the effort the Mayor started after disbanding the previous administration's Gang Task Force.
Mayor Berke said, "Our streets are too dangerous. And I know it's going to take some more time, but I'm impatient. We're going to have the High Point Initiative ready by the beginning of 2014, this is a big step forward in how we deal with the public safety issues of our community."
The High Point Initiative calls for targeting drug dealers in specific neighborhoods.
The worst offenders are made into examples.
The others are given a choice: Go straight, get out of town or go to prison on federal charges.

"disbanding the previous administration's Gang Task Force." That was such a stupid move. He also shut down the programs intended to stop youth before gang age. SMDH
