(WDEF)  National Night Out is an annual event that strengthens neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships. It sends a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime.
     This year the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) is celebrating 30 years of National Night Out. The first National Night Out took place on Tuesday, August 7th 1984. That first year, 2.5 million Americans took part across 400 communities in 23 states. National Night Out now involves over 37 million people and 15,000 communities from all fifty states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.
     The City of Chattanooga will be celebrating National Night Out Tuesday, October 1, 2013.The Chattanooga Police Department would like to invite all neighborhoods to participate in this celebration.
