CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) - A police officer placed on administrative leave after being involved in shooting with alleged gang members is back on patrol.

Officer Justin Headden of the Chattanooga Police Department was under investigation by internal affairs after he got into a shootout with one of two men who began shooting at people during the Annual South Side Reunion party.

It happened Saturday evening while hundreds of people were attending the party.

"We heard a round of shooting that went off. Next thing I knew, I could see highway patrol on motorcycles and everything was just crazy," said event organizer Napoleon Williams.

"What they had was a family outing and a bunch of gangsters came in and and tried to shoot at people," said officer Rick Mincy who was on scene after the shooting occurred.

The South Side Reunion party has been an annual event for the past 15 years but within the last two years, the event has been marred by shootings.

"It's devastating to be able to just let this thing go down like this. We built it," said Williams who has been a part of the annual event since it first started.

The two gunmen who started the incident got away on foot and so far, there has been no provided description of them.
