CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) - A Chattanooga police officer finds himself under investigation after items from an evidence room came up missing.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation told WDEF that Chattanooga police Sgt. Kevin Kincer is at the center of their probe into missing evidence and officer misconduct.
The District Attorney General's office requested TBI investigate the case after employees who worked in the property and evidence section of the department discovered evidence bags had been tampered with. They also say items including illegal pills were missing.
TBI told WDEF that Sgt. Kevin Kincer has been placed on administrative leave but did not state how he is connected to the missing evidence.
Many Chattanooga residents have voiced their concerns and opinion about this police department scandal.
"If they're under investigation and if their guilty I think they should go to jail just like any other person," said Donna Johnson as she stood in front of the Hamilton County courthouse.
"I think it's a shame. We hold them to a higher standard," said a woman outside a post office who didn't want to be identified.
"I'm glad that they will investigate it. I think that if they don't investigate it then we never will know what has happened to missing things," said Pam Pollard who had just learned about the scandal.
TBI says the locks in the evidence and property section of the police department have been changed. When the investigation is complete, TBI will turn the case over to the District Attorney General for review.
At this time, the investigation is ongoing and no one has been charged.
