CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF-TV) Concerned Citizens for Justice organized a peace rally on the Walnut Street Bridge to say to those in Ferguson, Missouri, that they are not alone and this kind of police violence has to stop.

One teen, Cheyenne Carpenter, said she notices the effects race has on the world she lives in and it shouldn't be that way.

"Well I feel like equality matters and that black lives matter," said 14-yaer-old Cheyenne.

She said even though she not black she sees a difference in how they are treated especially by police.

"The way their acting toward people sometimes today is just brutal."

The sign she held read "I stole as a teen would you shoot me?" Her answer to that question is why these rallies take place.

"Yeah I feel like if I had been black things could have been different, and I feel like that's wrong and that's why I'm here tonight," Cheyenne said.

Cheyenne's mother, Katie, said she glad both of her daughters are here because she too wants them to know the truth and for them to know it's not right.

"I enjoy a distinct amount of privileges based just upon my skin color and that is not fair, and I don't believe that it should be that way. It shouldn't be that way," said Katie.

Concerned Citizens for Justice says it's important for family like the Carpenters understand that they can't allow this to happen in Chattanooga.

"We are demanding justice, and we're demanding that this never ever happens again especially not in our city, and showing solidity with our brothers and sister in Ferguson," said Concerned Citizen for Justice member Ash-Lee Henderson.

Cheyenne said this cause is something she carries on her shoulders.

"I feel like it's my job as a younger generation to stand up for stuff like this."

Cheyenne's mother, Katie, added that she's saddened that in 2014 we are still having discussions of racism in this country.
