Chattanooga has always been considered the gateway to the south.
Now, not because of the Civil War but for thousands of years of history.
The Superintendent of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park explained the park's new vision to the Kiwanis Club Tuesday.
With the addition of Mocassin Bend, the focus of the park has gone from one year in the Civil War to thousands of years of peoples' habitation in Chattanooga.
That adds to its popularity.
Park Superintendent Cathleen Cook explains, "Because of the multiple stories that exists on this landscape I don't think that its going to be a bump just for these next few years, I think that we have opportunities to continue to have an increase in visitors."
The park is planning three months of activities to celebrate the park's anniversary in 2013.
