CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF-TV) Chattanooga’s Homeless Coalition will now receive $50,000 out of the General Fund to help get more manpower in their emergency night shelter.
Recently, the Community Kitchen used its paid staff to watch the shelter from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Executive Director Charlie Hughes is all about helping the less fortunate.
“We’re doing it because it’s needed,” he said.
Hughes wants to do the right thing, but he also knows something must change.
He adds, “We would much prefer that someone else be the night shelter for the city of Chattanooga. We're doing it because no one else is doing it.”
The Homeless Coalition needed the help and now they are getting it, but it didn’t come easy.
They were late requesting fund, and City Council did not understand why.
Stephen Wright with the Homeless Coalition knows they made an error, but he does not want to let that happen again.
We will request during the funding process which is coming up and are due by February 21,” Wright said about planning for future funds.
This money will last them through the month of March, and The Council will have to approve this again on its second reading.
