Here's the most recent update from the Dalton Police Department:

After a manhunt lasting just more than 40 hours, investigators from the Dalton Police Department arrested Orlando Ramirez with the assistance of US Marshals, the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force.  Ramirez was arrested at approximately 4:30 pm in Marietta, Georgia and charged with one count of homicide and two counts of aggravated assault.

During the course of the investigation, DPD detectives developed leads that placed Orlando Ramirez at the Harmony Meadows apartment complex at 1910 South Cobb Drive in Marietta.  After making contact with the US Marshals’ Southeast Region Fugitive Task Force and the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, detectives from Dalton left for Marietta.  Marshals and Cobb County deputies began surveillance at the apartment complex.  After determining Ramirez’s location, they knocked on the door of an apartment and Orlando Ramirez answered the door at approximately 4:30 pm.  He was immediately taken into custody after a brief struggle during which a taser was deployed.  Nobody was injured during the capture.

After taking Ramirez into custody, Dalton officers transported him back to the Police Services Center at 301 Jones Street to be interviewed by detectives.  He will be booked into the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office Jail later this evening.  Investigators also served a search warrant at the apartment in Marietta, recovering several pieces of evidence in the case.

Also on Monday afternoon, DPD officers arrested 18 year old Alexa Jiminez on charges of making false statements of law enforcement officers and hindering the apprehension or punishment of a criminal.  Jiminez is Ramirez’s girlfriend and lied several times to investigators about having contact with Ramirez and other factors that helped him evade capture.
