CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) - There was a lot of damage caused by the heavy downpour of constant rain on Saturday which continued Sunday night.

Locals and even tourist are fed up with weekend rains that have left many areas soggy, flooded and impassable.

"We need the rain but we sure could use some good sunshine," said one Chattanooga resident.

Several areas of Signal Mountain got hit pretty bad with fallen trees that left a few roads impassable.

"It's awful. Signal Mountain is flooded. We live on Signal Mountain and its caused a lot of problems on the roads and it's really keeping the tourist from coming out and enjoying today," said Theresa Dodds of Columbus Georgia.

Many areas throughout North Chattanooga suffered from flooding.

An abundance of collected rain water in underground pipes created enough pressure to lift manhole covers along Lake Resort Rd.

WDEF talked to Robert Cyphers who woke up to a front yard that was partially buried under water.

"What's happening in our front yard is just a lot of fast rains come in and it creates a little river because there is some blockage up here," Cyphers said.

It may take a day or two before many areas are cleared of debris and standing water.
