(WDEF) Republican candidate for governor David Pennington released the following prepared statement Tuesday night.
"I ran for governor to give the citizens of Georgia a conservative choice.
Despite being outspent by millions of dollars, tens of thousands of Georgia citizens embraced my campaign and gave me their vote today. I thank them and the countless volunteers who gave many hours to make sure our message was heard.
I am proud of my record of improving Dalton's business climate, cutting taxes, stopping wasteful spending and supporting conservative values. I am proud to have helped create jobs for many years as a small businessman. Public service should be about serving the public and not seeking personal gain. I am proud of my record of public service to the citizens of Dalton and I was proud to run a dignified campaign for governor of Georgia.
On behalf of Pam and our entire family, I say thank you again to all of you. And, as someone whose family has been in Georgia since the 1700s, I am deeply concerned about the direction our state is headed. Although tonight did not go the way we wanted it to, I will continue our fight to improve our State of Georgia.
God bless you all. God bless Georgia. And, God bless the United States of America."
