WDEF News 12 and Bi-Lo took time Thursday to honor some of our area's best teachers at our Golden Apple Banquet.
Over the course of this school year, we've received letters from hundreds of students and parents wanting to share the impact their teachers are making in the classroom. They've told us why their teachers are so amazing.
Some of the letters say simple things like the teacher is nice, has good organization skills, or cares for his or her students. But most cover the extraordinary. We've learned how one teacher turned her classroom into a campground to inspire students to read. While another teacher received high marks for using humor to make his assignments seem simple. And then there's the teacher who hosted a head shaving party to show his support for a student dealing with cancer.Diane Hitchcock from Snow Hill Elementary
earned Teacher of the Year honors. "We do so much in the classroom with creativity. My daughter actually comes and teaches art classes for me. It's just, everything about it is.. we do songs for songs for science. we do puppet shows. you just have to make learning fun. I enjoy teaching."Dexter Bell from The Howard School
and Kay McDowell from LFO
