CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF-TV) Chattanooga Police responded to reports of a person shot at the Emma Wheeler Homes, and when they arrived they found a woman dead in her home.
Francis Quintella Denise Smith was murdered in her own home and now her children and her family will have to move on without her. That thought has them feeling empty and hurt.
"This is so hard for me sitting knowing my daughter is dead in that house,” screamed mother, Doris Smith.
Tears filled her eyes knowing that her daughter Francis Smith had been murdered early Sunday morning.
Family and friends stood around Doris trying to fill the void this loss has created.
"I really don't have the feelings,” said Doris. “I know my daughter is dead, I do know this.”
Francis Smith was shot multiple times in her chest and was pronounced dead when emergency crews arrived a little after 5 in the morning.
The pain of not being able to see Francis one last time was devastating to this family.
"I'm just sad, I'm just so sad. I'm going to miss my baby,” said Doris.
There was a crowd around the scene all paying respects to Francis, a woman that almost everyone in the community knew and loved.
"She always had a smile on her face, always was happy,” said close friend Tara Murphy. “We're going to miss her.”
Doris says her daughter was a victim of domestic violence and it hurts to see her child taken away from her.
"This violence has to stop, it's got to stop, it's got to stop,” said Doris.
Chattanooga Police Department did not have any information on a suspect, and they do want anyone with information to come forward.
The Smith family speculates this was a domestic violence situation.
