For years, parents have sent their kids to the Creative  Arts Guild in Dalton for gymnastic lessons under coach Billy Newcom.
Director Terry Tomasello says Newcom was a well qualified and respected coach until now.
The Whitfield County Sheriff Department reports Newcom sent inappropriate picture messages to a former 15 year old student, and suggested they meet up for sex in the messages.
"He's USA gymnastics certified and with that comes a background check so we did our due diligence there and had the background check and it was clean and he's always been great.  We never had complaints.  So it was quite a surprise," said Tomasello.
Newcom hasn't worked for the Creative Arts Guild for about a year now, but it was two years ago that a local middle school cheerleading squad started coming to him for coaching.
The victim, who was just 13 at the time, was part of that squad.
Authorities say Newcom started sending the messages about a month ago, and the victims mother found them.
Parents in the area say it makes them concerned about who they're trusting their children with.
"He just totally betrayed loyalty and safety and for my personal point of view I would like to consider to have a female for a trainer," said Stasha Tomazin.
Newcom is now charged with one felony count of Computer or electronic pornography and child exploitation prevention.
