(WDEF) Susan Morrison wins this week's Golden Apple Award because of a letter submitted by one of her students at East Hamilton Middle/High School.

The letter reads: "Mrs. Morrison teaches AP English Language and Composition,
and  English 11 at East Hamilton. She really brings the students in
touch with English and shows them new ways to think and argue through
the use of powerful rhetoric. The books she assigns students to read are
all connected with life and idealism and the seminars she provokes are
inspiring. Having Mrs. Morrison while in AP Language and Composition in
11th grade, she taught me how to think for myself, how to communicate my
ideas, and to never let society tell you what is right and wrong - to
stand up for your beliefs and human rights. In her class, we were once
assigned a project to help make a country better. Mrs. Morrison
encouraged us to really think outside of the box and be creative with
our solutions, and to use conviction. Projects like these opened me up
to a new, more in-touch-with-the-world way of thinking. Throughout my
time at East Hamilton, many teachers have worked hard to help their
students learn, but none quite like the way Mrs. Morrison teaches you to
think for yourself. I am now her teacher's aide, and a senior. I asked
to be her aide just so I could her interesting lessons and ways of
getting students interested in English. She is the one teacher whose
class I will always remember, and I thank her for the lessons she taught
me and my fellow students about life."
