CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) - A Hamilton County man was arrested in Chattanooga after he allegedly tried to get a 13-year old girl to send him nude pictures of herself online.
According to the arrest affidavit, a Chattanooga police officer took over the Facebook page of a 13-year old girl after her mother found out James Renfro, 21, was allegedly trying to get her daughter to send him nude pictures of herself.
According to police, the girl clearly stated to Renfro that she was only 13.
Tuesday afternoon, the officer took over the page and began messaging Renfro. Renfro thought he was communicating with the girl when in fact he was online with the officer. Renfro allegedly requested that the girl send nude pictures of herself. He even allegedly offered to send nude pictures of himself to her if she asked. The affidavit complaint goes on to say that Renfro offered to pay the girl for her nude photos. He even went as far as to allegedly say that he had Leukemia and that nude pictures of hwould make the pain go away.
Renfro was told the girl would be at the Northgate Mall later in the evening and agreed to meet with her.
According to the officer who was posing as the 13-year old girl, Renfro escalated his message by saying it was no problem if they didn't exchange pictures and move on to a physical encounter since they were meeting in person.
Renfro allegedly said he would pick the girl up in his truck then take her to a safe place then bring her back to the mall.
Police said Renfro was surprised when he arrived at the mall only to find officers attempting to take him into custody.
At one point, Renfro allegedly tried to drive away and even struck an officer with this vehicle in the process. He allegedly fled the scene and did not stop and surrender until more officers closed in on him.
Police said when they placed Renfro under arrest, he said he didn't know the girl was "8-years old." He later allegedly told officers he knew what he was doing and accepted full responsibility as he confessed to the crime.
Renfro was charged with one count of solicitation of a minor, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of evading arrest.
During their investigation, police learned that Renfro was not suffering from Leukemia.
His bond was set at $75,000.
