(WDEF) The Humane Educational Society started Tuesday in Marion County assessing 15 dogs rescued from freezing temperatures Monday night.
HES was alerted to a hoarding case that involved 15 dogs tied out and/or crated on a property in Marion County with literally no protection from the bitter elements yesterday afternoon. Thanks to the quick response of the Marion County Disaster Animal Response Team (DART) and to Marion Animal Resource Connection (MARC), the dogs were removed from the property and spent the night at the Sequatchie Firehall warm and dry.
With much compassion, HES staff and volunteers worked tirelessly vaccinating and assessing the dogs. Many are heavily matted and must be shaved and all are in need of a good grooming. "Mandy" a sweet terrier mix was terribly matted and had to be completely shaved. Volunteers will be back at the shelter Wednesday to spend time with our new residents and to help with the other dogs that need grooming.
