Chattanooga, Tennessee (WDEF): More than 2-thousand competitors will come to compete in IRONMAN Chattanooga next fall.
Sign-ups for the first ever IRONMAN started this afternoon. They sold out in record time. Bob Doak, President Chattanooga Convention Visitor's Bureau said, "We just learned just a few moments ago that the event has sold out completely within 3 minutes, unprecedented." With such an incredible amount of interest in the IRONMAN competition, Chattanooga Convention and Visitor's Bureau President, Bob Doak, says this is the largest piece of business ever built in the Scenic City. Doak said, ""We have had a lot of base hits and doubles, but this was an upper deck grand slam and we are very proud of the city and to be hosting this."
Chattanooga will not only host IRONMAN in 2014, but secured a deal for the next 5 years. Tim Morgan, Chattanooga Sports Committee President said, ""It proves that they believe this is a destination that will sell, and that's very attractive for individuals to not only come and compete, but also bring their families." Twenty five-hundred athletes are projected to compete each year, bringing in guaranteed tourism and revenue. Zach Winchester, Co-Owner Fast Breaks Athletics said, "They'll stay for three, four, five days. Maybe even have training camps throughout the year and in the summer. They'll come this fall, this winter and next spring to learn the course."
Doak says that he couldn't be more pleased the event sold out so quickly and will bring in about 40-million dollars to our city. Doak went on to say, "One of our main goals in our sports division was to secure a large event that would be a signature event for this city which we have indeed done that which we believe will spin off into additional business going forward."
