A sound so many longed to hear echoed through the courtroom, Jesse Matthews plead guilty to all six counts including the first degree murder of Sergeant Tim Chapin.
Matthew's Attorney Lee Davis brought the guilty plea agreement to the prosecutor's side on Wednesday.
"I think the disposition is a fair and firm one. And is one that I think all sides can agree on," said Davis.
This means the murder of Sergeant Tim Chapin won't be punished by death penalty, but Matthews will spend the rest of his life in prison. There's no parole or appeal.
"It is a death penalty. Life without the possibility of parole. You go to the penitentiary. You stay there until you die," said Attorney General Bill Cox.
Police chief Bobby Dodd says he's relieved the process of convicting his Sergeants killer is finally over.
"This kind of brings this thing to a finality, closes that chapter behind us and hopefully we can all heal and move forward. Not only the department, the family, as well."
