(WDEF)  Chattanooga firefighters battle a mattress fire shortly after 6:00 Thursday night.
It happened at 918 Hamilton Avenue.
Battalion Chief Don Bowman said a mattress was on fire in one of the five apartment units in the building. He said firefighters had the fire out in less than five minutes, containing the fire to one room. No injuries were reported.
The fire damaged the wiring in the building prompting EPB to cut the power.
That left about a dozen people and two dogs without a place to stay.
Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were called in to assist the displaced residents with overnight accommodations. Chattanooga police and Hamilton County EMS also provided assistance on the scene.
The fire caused an estimated $20,000 in damages.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
