This was the scene as dozens of people took part in a 9k dog friendly run and walk to help raise money for McKamey Animal Center. Jason Mitchell and his dog phantom were the first to cross the finish line.

"sometimes she was ahead of me and other times I was pulling her along. So it was teamwork."

It may have been another hot and muggy day in Chattanooga but that didn't stop some folks from running and walking for a worthy cause.

But the event was more than just a fundraiser. It was also a way to celebrate McKamey's 5th anniversary. McKamey spokesperson, Karen Walsh tells us the center has been able to maintain success over the past five years due to national attention and of course--local and national donations to help pay for various programs.

"We've been able to offer spay and neuter programs and our angel fund and our food bank program to help the city of Chattanooga and to help us be better to our animals."

And when there is this much support on a hot summer day. Sky is the limit on what the animal center can provide in the future.

"As we progress, We're going to offer more and more and more opportunities or people to come and have different programs like this on and educational programs here at the center."

Organizers say they hope to give back to the community by having as many dog friendly event as they can muster.
