Million dollar home burns to the ground

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tennessee -(WDEF) A home worth more than a million dollars burned to the ground.

It happened early Sunday morning in Lakesite.

Investigators said the owners of the house awoke to a smell of smoke and quickly realized their boat was on fire inside the garage. The owner told authorities he tried to put it out with a garden house but the flames were too powerful so he and everyone in the home evacuated.

Firefighters said the blaze managed to quickly spread from one end of the house to the other thanks to fuel from two boats and gun ammunition.
   
Once the fire really got out of control, all three floors collapsed to the basement.
   
Investigators said there were eight antique cars in the garages but crews we were only able to save five of them.

Emma Carter lives across the street and said she was awaken by the fire trucks and the sound of explosions.
   
"I saw flames coming up from the house and they were really big. They were as big as two big buildings together," Carter said.

Carter said she didn't personally know the people who lived across from her but she feared for their lives.

"I was a little bit scared and nervous and wondering if they were ok," Carter said.

Fortunately no one was injured.

Investigators said the fire caused more than $2-million worth of damage.
     
The blaze was so massive that it took crews from five different fire departments to put it out.

The caused the fire is still under investigation
