CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF-TV) Some problems came with all of the excitement surrounding the National Pro Cycling championships this Memorial Day weekend.
There were problems like turning a ten-minute trip downtown into a thirty-minute maze of confusion and for Bryan Iler and his wife it was a bit overwhelming.
"It was a pain in the ass,” said Bryan Iler.
The couple drove a little more than four hours from Hartwell Georgia to look for their potential new home here in the Scenic City on Monday
His wife's job is transferring her and Memorial Day was the only day they could come check out the city but it didn't go as planned.
"And we get here we can't see the city,” said Iler. “We're not able to go downtown."
He said they were in a maze of detours, road closures and orange cones, and they had very little help from the police patrolling the downtown area.
“They were about as helpful as the piece of pavement they were standing on.” Iler then added, “The entire day was so frustrating she actually made the state that, 'I don't think I want to come to Chattanooga.'"
Travelers weren't only ones confused. Kelsey Cline says her routine trip to work also took an unexpected turn.
"Kind of going the wrong way on a one way,” said Cline. “Well I got part way down the correct way and realize that it was a dead end and had to go back the wrong way."
It was something she didn't see coming. As for Bryan Iler and his wife, they learned a valuable lesson about Chattanooga before they even moved here.
"This is the day where you don't go in to the city,” he said.
