A medical panic alert call almost led to a tragedy involving an elderly man.
Medical personnel showed up at a home in the 9-thousand block of Anne Street in Ooltewah.
But after repeated attempts, they could not contact anyone inside.
Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputies got the okay from another family member, and forced open the front door.
That's when they found 90-year old Cecil McDowell pointing a gun at them.
Deputies moved back as McDowell fired a gun at the front door.
Dispatchers finally got a hold of him and explained that it was law enforcement at his home.
McDowell had recently been the victim of a burglary.
No one was hurt in the incident.
