Barry Payne, Cambridge Square lead developer says,

Rather than filling the area with chain restaurants, Architects wanted to keep things local, giving a downtown feel to the area.

Mike McGowan Lead Architect says,
"We wanna encourage people to build things other than strip centers, we wanna see city centers and we wanna see parks."

Businesses like Volkswagen and Amazon Have brought thousands of people to work in Ooltewah and they're hoping places like this, will keep them here.

The two local restaurants already operating in the square are pleased with the location.

Sarah Bearisto of Lupi's says,
"They don't have to go to Hamilton Place and it's a great alternative to a chain also so it's nice having the local food and a local product."

Also open is Southern Burger Company, owner Christian Siler went to school in Ooltewah and says it's like coming home.

"I love the growth out here and I'm super excited about this square. They've put a lot of money into it... it's actually powered more than Miller Plaza, so they're gonna have a lot of stuff going on out here."

The square currently only has 3 buildings in place... But the area will have 26 in total...
River street architecture has seen growing interest as more business are jumping on board.

A Food Works is rumored to be opening a location in Cambridge Square.

McGowan couldn't tell News 12 the name of that rumored future occupant... but says, locals will not be disappointed.

"A large restaurant that people are very familiar with from downtown has taken a 6,000 square foot restaurant pad out there... They'll have a roof deck with a roof bar, and an outdoor patio... They're planning on having an outdoor fireplace."

The future restaurant joins Lupi's and Southern Burger Company
A yoga studio and a Coffee Shop are also planning to move in...
All this will accommodates locals as well as future residents of the two nearby Apartment complexes.

"We really are building a city center...and more is coming."
