(WDEF)  A 73-year-old Chattanooga native led a rally Friday to end the government shutdown.
Former high school principal and U.S. Navy veteran Franklin McCallie delivered his message to a group Organizing For Action volunteers across from the Federal Courthouse Friday.
He said House Republicans- quote- "must stop sabotaging our economy just to satisfy their obsession with de-funding Obamacare."
McCallie added, "The Tea Party is all about the Tea Party.  High fives all around, Tea Party.  You have successfully closed down the government of the United States and you are hurting our country and our citizens."
McCallie's government shutdown grassroots action event took place Friday at noon.

The gov't shutdown is a farce... we only can WISH it were shutdown! It is Obama's fault in any case. Make no mistake that this shutdown is solely the result of the actions of one Barack Hussein Obama, who has even been vindictive enough to shut an unattended memorial for WWII vets (basically a sidewalk), the Statue of Liberty, and our national parks. The GOP has passed seven bills to get government re-opened. Obama has ordered them killed and shutdown extended. “It’s a cheap way to deal with the situation,” an angry Park Service ranger in Washington says of the harassment. “We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can. It’s disgusting.” Believe us, if this really were the work of the REAL ‘teaparty’ as they are charging, we would have shut down (for good!) the IRS, the Federal Reserve, the Dept of Ed, EPA, HUD, DOT, DHS, FBI, CIA and any number of other non-essential agencies that rob our freedoms daily!
