CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) - What started as a friendly South Chattanooga picnic party has turned into crime scene.

Investigators said several gunmen who are believed to be gang members showed up at the party and started shooting at people then the situation reportedly turned into a shootout between several people.

It happened around 6:15 Saturday evening near the intersection of 26th and Long St.

"What they had was a family outing a  bunch of gangsters came in and tried to shot at people. When you get that many people in one area, things are going to happen. Unfortunately during this day and time it happens too frequently for us," said Sgt. Rick Mincy of the Chattanooga Police Department.

No one was reportedly hit or injured and the gunmen who allegedly started the incident fled on foot.

Investigators did take a gun into evidence but it's not known who that weapon belongs to.

And they still think it's a good idea to shut down the Gang Task Force & the Future Is Ours project to avoid joining gangs. SMDH
