Lookout Mountain Circuit Judicial Drug Task Force member Patrick Doyle was on the hunt Tuesday.
Doyle said, "We have the governor's state drug task force, the state of Georgia come up here and assist us a couple of times annually. Today we are flying several locations that we've gotten information there's the possibility of marijuana growing."
This chopper takes to the skies above more rural areas in the Peach State-- on the lookout for marijuana plants.
Doyle added, "Basically you've got a pilot and you've got spotters that hang off the side of these aircraft and observe, check these fields for any signs there may be marijuana growing."
Tuesday's hunt yielded few results.
Doyle said, "We've made one case today. We've got a couple of plants in Catoosa County and there is a pending investigation on that."
After a day of searching, Doyle says he's pleased they didn't find more.
"We think it's excellent we're not finding any. That means that we're doing our job. It's not the first time that we've flown this year and we think we are being effective and we're suppressing marijuana," he said.
But that doesn't mean the area is truly pot free.
Doyle added, "We are seeing a trend that there's a lot more indoor marijuana grows than we've seen in years previous and we expect that trend to continue and the possibility to find even more indoor marijuana grows."
Today's hunt targeted large commercial grows; that is, pot plants that are raised to be sold by drug-trafficking organizations.
