(WDEF) The grassroots effort to save the mosaic on the side of the old Red Bank Middle School paid off Wednesday.
The 70-year-old landmark dodged the wrecking ball.
Residents raised money to save the brick boy and girl on the side of the building.
Red Bank alumnus Marty Green of Marty Green Construction spent the day removing the mosaic from the old building.
It will be put up at the High School as a monument for the alumni.
He said, "You know I'm just trying to give back a little bit to the school. You know, it was good to me when I was here, so we're just doing it as cheap as we can do it for them.">
Hamilton County Commissioner Joe Graham helped raise money for the cause.
Judge Johnny Huston also gave $1,000.
