CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE (WDEF-TV)-- 50 Volunteers went door to door in the Woodmore neighborhood. Giving away batteries, smoke alarms and other information.

They reached around 300 homes Saturday. One, a retired military veteran, appreciates and understands how much a little help can go.

"Well, it means a lot cause if you're notified of a problem you can try to correct it and save your own life," said Clayton Sampley.

There were about 65 smoke alarms and 130 batteries given away. This is actually the second time this year firefighters and the American Red Cross teamed up.

Batteries in smoke alarms should be changed every six months. Firefighter say change your batteries when you change your clocks.
