HAMILTON COUNTY, TN (WDEF-TV) A Soddy Daisy man will now spend the next 35 years in prison for murder.
Keith Stewart agreed to a plea deal to avoid going to trail. He faced a first-degree murder charge in the death of 25-year-old Casey Burgiss, but he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder charge and especially aggravated robbery.
Assistant District Attorney General, Cameron Williams, felt very confident if they had to go to trail.
“We had a good bit of evidence against Mr. Stewart,” said Williams. “He gave a statement to the police. He gave several different stories during that statement.”
Stewart admitted that he was involved in the robbery of Burgiss, but claimed he was not the one who pulled the trigger.
The prosecution felt they had enough forensic evidence that place Stewart as the only suspect in this case.
“We had a projectile that was recovered fro the crime scene,” Williams said later, “And it matched the weapon that was recovered at the defendant’s residents. It was actually his father’s gun.”
This plea deal does not allow any early release or a retrial. He will spend the full 35 years in prison.
