After three months of searching and questions, a Soddy Daisy family may have some closure.
Karen Crawley, back in August said, "I'm asking anyone who knows anything, regardless of what it is, I want to find my child. Regardless."
Detectives were led to a gruesome discovery off Layne Road Monday night... Human remains.
Chief Phil Hamrick explained, "We suspect it's our missing person, Casey Burgiss, who's been missing since July 21st."
For the past three months, Soddy Daisy Police, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have been working together to find the missing father. Chief Hamrick said, "The detectives working information, doing interviews, one of the parties kind of told them where the body was and they went and found the body."
19-year-old Keith Stewart of Layne Road in Soddy Daisy has been arrested and charged with criminal homicide. Chief Hamrick says the case could be drug related. Chief Hamrick added, "It may have been a sale that went bad. We're not sure. It's still developing."
Chief Hamrick could not comment as to whether or not Stewart is the person who told police where to find the remains. He added, "There was rumors all along from the very beginning that foul play was involved. But we held out hope until yesterday."
Chief Hamrick says he's heard Brugiss died from a gunshot wound, and that it happened back on July 21st. But officials are still working to recover the remains. The body was found on the side of a mountain that's not near any roads. He added, "They've had a tough time just to get back there to it."
Once they recover the remains, they will be sent for an autopsy. Positive identification and cause of death should be determined at that time.
Chief Hamrick says the Soddy Daisy Police Department has spent between 400 and 500 man hours on this case during the past three months.
Four detectives and two K-9 officers had been working the case non-stop.
