(WDEF) The YMCA kicked off its new summer nutrition program for kids and teens this week in LaFayette.
It's happening at the Park Recreation Center.
All children under the age of 18 can enjoy a free lunch each weekday this summer between 11:30am and 12:30pm.
Thursday the kids chose between a sandwich, chips and apple or a make your own salad kit.
Laura Flegal serves as site coordinator for the YMCA summer nutrition program at the Park Recreation Center.  She explained, "Bright from the Start program gives YMCA money to make these meals to the kids and then we take them out to different locations in North Georgia and feed the children. Because you know they get fed during school time but what are they supposed to do during the summer time? You know, so we've got several different locations where they're fed and you know that's the only food they get."
A second nutrition program opens up next Monday at the Max Stoker Center on Glenn Street.
It will be open weekdays from noon until 1:00pm.
That location is being sponsored by the Walker County Schools.
