MEMPHIS, Tenn. (July 30, 2013) – Chairman of the Tennessee Black Caucus of State Legislators, Rep. Larry Miller (D-Memphis), released the following statement regarding the President’s visit Tuesday:
“The Tennessee Black Caucus of State Legislators is proud to welcome President Barack Obama to Tennessee today.
“We look forward to hearing the President discuss his proposals to improve Tennessee’s economy by making sound investments that will enable more Americans to join the middle class through hard work and determination.
“We hope that all Tennesseans, Democrat, Republican and Independent, will embrace the President’s initiatives that seek to expand the middle class, increase earnings, and strengthen our financial security for the future.
“Now should not be a time for point scoring and tired political rhetoric that further divides this state. Instead, we should call a political truce that will enable us to work together for shared economic prosperity that we all so desperately need. We will never succeed as a society by tearing each other down, but rather by building each other up.
“In 2014, the Tennessee Black Caucus pledges to work with Democratic and Republican legislators to create more opportunity for better paying jobs that will enable every Tennessean the chance to live the American dream.”
