If you were in downtown Chattanooga Wednesday morning you may have noticed everyone evacuating the Volunteer building.
The fire alarms went off and all the elevators shut down around 10-AM. Everyone who was in the building was told to evacuate immediately. Those inside had to walk down flights of stairs to get out onto the street. A worker said there was renovation going on, and thought maybe the dust tripped the fire alarm system.
Robin Derryberry was inside when the alarm interrupted her press conference. She said she had to walk down seven flights of stairs. Derryberry said, "Not sure exactly what the cause was. We all just made it downstairs and as soon as we were down, it was all over with. Everyone is fine."
Only one elevator worked when everyone went back into the building. The cause of why the fire alarms went off is still unclear.
