WALKER COUNTY, GA (WDEF-TV) Joshua Fowler is charged with the crime of murdering his grandmother.
75-year-old Joyce Fowler was murdered in her own home and that's something neighbors were surprised by.
This tragedy has many in the community sad and at one point on edge. Resident Charles Brown cannot believe it actually happen.
“Something like this would happen especially on this road. It's usually a quiet neighborhood,” said Brown.
Brown said his mother stays only a few houses down, and he skipped church Sunday fearful of her safety.
“My mother's 83 years old and I have to take care of her,” said Brown. “I had to worry about someone breaking in to the house and stuff.”
That was before they knew Joyce's grandson, Joshua Fowler, had been arrested for parole violation on Sunday morning and also was a prime suspect for her murder.
Walker County Sheriff points to Joshua's car as the crucial piece of evidence.
“We recovered, have recovered, human blood in the vehicle,” said Sheriff Wilson. “We knew all along the vehicle was key to the investigation to tie him and link him to the crime scene at the home.
A few people on this street say they saw Joshua at the home Saturday morning and one even spoke with him.
Many can't imagine why he would want to hurt his own grandmother.
“It's a tragedy that something like that would happen, and I've just been praying for the family,” said Brown.
The blood found in Joshua's car is still has to be processed to see who it belongs to.
