CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF-TV) - If you dread the long lines getting through airport security, there's a way you can shorten your wait time.
The Transportation Security Administration is ramping-up a pre-check program that will offer special services to a broader range of travelers.
An application site now open in Chattanooga.
There are very few problems with security delays at the Chattanooga Metro Airport.
But when you leave there...you're pretty much on your own.
Although rules have been relaxed over the years since 9-11, there are still problems at some major airports.
TSA is trying to minimize them.
MARK J. HOWELL, TSA SPOKESMAN "TSA pre-check is an expedited screening program that allows passengers to go through security without taking their shows off ..Without taking off their light outerwear, they can also keep their laptops in the bag as well as their liquids."
TSA is creating 300 application centers across the country to let air travelers take care of pre-enrollment.
MARK HOWELL "What TSA is doing is getting away from a one-size fits all approach to security...we're moving more to risk-based security."
The pre-enrollment process will cost 85-dollars for a 5-year membership.
For people who spend a lot of time at airports and in the air, its probably worth it.
LISA PANEBIANCO, FREQUENT FLYER "I travel through Charlotte a lot...and I've got the pre-check there and its nice...because you zip right on through. "
TSA has other programs for international travelers.
NOELLA MACLAIN, TOTONTO,CANADA "Because I travel a lot for work, I signed-up for the NEXUS program which is expedited border crossing between the United States and Canada.."
The new TSA programs and procedures are time savers.
MARK HOWELL "Having that little bit of information before passengers get to the airport..allows us to focus on those that we don't have information about."
You can do pre-check enrollment in Chattanooga at 6231 Perimeter Drive.
The information is also available on-line at TSA.gov.
