CHATTANOOGA, TN. (WDEF)-- The president of the United States will praise Amazon.Com tomorrow for creating thousands of new jobs.
He'll speak to employees at the Enterprise South plant.
But a quarter mile away is the Volkswagen plant--- another success story for Chattanooga and the state of Tennessee.
It makes Chattanooga the center of the automotive south.

Chattanooga's Volkswagen plant continues to reap national awards for quality.
But that's just one of the reasons that , for the 4th year in a row, a national economic publication has been named Tennessee the Number One state in the national for Automotive Manufacturing strength.
Business Facilities says the state is a Global leader.

REP. GERALD MCCORMICK IN:23:51 "I think this goes all the way back really to the 1980's when Lamar Alexander decided to really recruit the automotive industry to Tennessee. "

The Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce is getting ready to circulate a new booklet placing Hamilton county in the center of what's being called "the automotive south."

RON HARR, PRES. & CEO, CHAMBER OF COMMERCE "We're celebrating our growth and our ability to be a major player in the automotive business."

The publication Business Facilities says Volkswagen's determination to ramp up production and sell a million Passat's next year also influenced the publication's decision.
All automakers in Tennessee are doing well, and attracting more jobs through suppliers.

RON HARR "In fact, that's what our new marketing campaign is targeting. We're looking for automotive suppliers that want to be near those manufacturers, and we think Chattanooga is the perfect place to be located."

MAYOR JIM COPPINGER, HAMILTON COUNTY "The success of Volkswagen continues and the investments they've made here, the jobs they've created. We're really pleased with that relationship."

REP. GERALD MCCORMICK "I think companies that invest in areas, want to see local and state governments that are responsible with the tax payers money, and in Tennessee we're done that on a bi-partisan basis."

In this fiscal year, 2012-13, 44 automotive projects created 6-thousand-600 jobs in Tennessee, with an investment of 1.1 billion dollars.
